Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, located just south of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is a 459-acre sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and caring for abused, abandoned, and neglected big cats and other exotic animals.

Tigers in Arkansas
Founded in 1992, it has grown into one of the country’s largest accredited facilities of its kind. The refuge is home to over 100 animals, including tigers, lions, leopards, ligers, jaguars, and cougars. With major rescue operations—like the one in 2012—and the intake of animals from the closure of Big Cat Rescue in 2023, Turpentine Creek has expanded efforts such as Rescue Ridge to house even more animals in peace and safety.
The refuge also cares for a range of other species, including bobcats, servals, hyenas, and bears. Some native wildlife like deer and vultures also make appearances on the expansive property. Visitors can take guided tram tours and attend keeper talks to learn more about the dangers of the exotic pet trade and the importance of responsible wildlife stewardship. Turpentine Creek’s mission centers on providing a forever home for these magnificent creatures while educating the public through immersive, ethical wildlife experiences.
